Pinkie Pie
Pinkie Pie is a pink female Earth pony and is one of the main characters / mane ponies of 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic'. In the 'Cutie Mark Chronicles' and the chapter book 'Pinkie Pie and the Rockin' Ponypalooza Party!' Pinkie Pie's parents call her Pinkamena Diane Pie. The voice behind Pinkie Pie is Andrea Libman, while Shannon Chan Kent is the voice behind her singing voice.
Pinkie Pie is the most energetic and hyper pony of them all and is usually the main portion of the comical gags in the show. She also writes and sings most of the songs in the show. Pinkie Pie is also the socialite pony as she knows every pony in Ponyville according to her, and doesn't hesitate to have a party to celebrate anything anytime. Pinkie Pie works at Sugarcube Corner and also lives on the second floor of the bakery with her toothless pet baby alligator, Gummy.
Pinkie Pie has a warm personality and stays light-hearted and brave in any situation. In many episodes she laughs at fear in the face, one example is the first episode, "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" where the Everfree Forest trees scare her friends, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Applejack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash, while Pinkie Pie ends up making a song to laugh the scariness away. Sometimes Pinkie's clumsiness and personality makes her friends not take her seriously, but Pinkie Pie also has a lot of sense, especially when her Pinkie Sense starts up.
Her Pinkie Sense is Pinkie's ability to almost predict the future. According to Applejack, all the ponies in Ponyville heed Pinkie Pie's words when she talks about her Pinkie Sense. At first, Twilight Sparkle was skeptic, but with a lack of scientific explanation, she gave in and believed in Pinkie's Pinkie Sense. A sign that her Pinkie Sense is working is when her tail twitches.
Another character trait that Pinkie Pie has is her cartoonish behavior and deposition. Some old classic cartoons and their behaviors can also be seen in Pinkie Pie's actions like in the episode "Griffon the Brush Off", Pinkie's skips remind the viewers of Pepé Le Pew, while in the episode "Dragonshy", her costume resembles Daffy Duck's costume in the Looney Toons episode, Duck Amuck. Pinkie can also do incredible feats like make her eyes pop out and more like from classic cartoons. Her overall personality makes her the perfect pony as she represents the Element of Laughter.
Although Pinkie Pie may be enthusiastic and outgoing, she can also be very insecure. In the episode, "Party of One", Pinkie doubts herself and her friends for being unfaithful making her "deflate" which makes her color turn a gray-ish pink and talk to inanimate objects declaring them as her friends. Also, when a lot of responsible is given to her on her hoofs, she can become overwhelmed and have difficulty with her responsibilities. Although, she is a very talented pony for making others laugh, talent in music and instruments, cooking, ice skating, and especially making the best parties for everyone!
Pinkie Pie's cutie mark features three balloons. Most likely, this represents what balloons usually always represent, which is a party! Pinkie Pie's personality always starts and ends with a party so her cutie mark also stands for that. During Pinkie Pie's history, the story of her Cutie Mark is also revealed. In "The Cutie Mark Chronicles", Pinkie tells the Cutie Mark Crusaders about her past and how she achieved her cutie mark. Pinkie was actually raised on a Rock Farm with her sisters Marble Pie and Limestone Pie and her mother Cloudy Quarts and father Igneous Rock which were all unnamed in the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic show, but was given names in the book, 'Pinkie Pie and the Rockin' Ponypalooza Party!'. All of Pinkie's family have neutral Earth-colored manes and coats of grays and browns and all have somber expressions until Pinkie Pie finds her true hidden talent.
During Rainbow Dash's sonic rainboom which cleared the skies and created a rainbow, the static shock wave created from it made Pinkie Pie's hair frizzle and curl up. After witnessing the sonic rainboom, Pinkie Pie flashes a smile which makes her decide what she wants to do in life which is make everypony smile and laugh by spreading joy to others. She then invites her family to their very own first party where they shakily develop smiles and eventually join in the fun of the party.
Pinkie Promise
"Cross my heart, hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye." -Pinkie Pie |
Pinkie Pie has a variation to the "Cross my heart, hope to die, stick a thousand needles in my eye." promise. Pinkie uses, "Cross my heart, hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye." Pinkie Pie takes these promises very seriously. These are used in the episodes "Green Isn't Your Color" and "The Last Roundup"
Gummy is Pinkie Pie's adorable 1 year old toothless baby pet alligator who is introduced in the episode "Feeling Pinkie Keen". Pinkie confides in Gummy's company and ideas about her feelings in the episode "Party of One" and celebrates her birthday one day after Gummy's in the same episode. Pinkie shows how much she loves Gummy by just screaming to her heart's content how much she loves him in the episode "Just for Sidekicks".
