My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Season 1 Episode 6 - Boast Busters

Lesson:

It is okay to be proud of your talents, especially if you use them to stand up for your friends. Just don't brag and lie to make yourself look better, the best thing you could ever do is just 'be yourself'.

SUMMARY:

The sixth episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is entitled 'Boast Busters'.

In this episode, while Twilight Sparkle practices her magic with Spike, a new unicorn visits Ponyville by the name of The Great and Powerful Trixie. Two unicorns by the name of Snips and Snails excitedly inform Twilight and Spike about the new unicorn and they all rush over to see. Some ponies are amazed but Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity are not convinced. Spike continues to persuade Twilight into showing Trixie real magic, but Twilight continues to disagree afraid she will be accused of bragging too. The title is a spin off the 'Ghostbusters' title and franchise.

THE GREAT AND POWERFUL TRIXIE

In Golden Oaks Library, Twilight Sparkle and Spike practice Twilight's magic ability. They are already at her 25th trick which was 'growing magic' where Twilight grew a mustache on Spike. Spike then wanted to use his classy mustache charm to impress Rarity but Twilight reversed her magic making Spike's new mustache disappear.

Ever since Twilight has showed her magic skills to Spike, he continuously complimented and praised her abilities as the best unicorn in all Ponyville, but Twilight modestly says that there are probably many more unicorns who have the same or better abilities than her. As the both were having a stroll, two unicorns named Snips and Snails dashed towards Twilight and Spike spreading the word about the 'most powerful and magical unicorn ever'. Curious of who this new unicorn could be, Twilight and Spike rush along to see as well.

When they arrived, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie were already there along with many other ponies. With glam, booms and sparks, the Great and Powerful Trixie introduced herself by numerous boasts about her achievements as the most wonderful unicorn in all Equestria.

Already annoyed by her attitude, the ponies are skeptic of Trixie. Twilight asks if it is wrong to be talented, but Applejack and Rarity explain that their is nothing wrong as long as you don't boast about it, which lowers Twilight's self-esteem of her and her magic although Spike continues to encourage Twilight to show everypony what real magic is made of. Rainbow Dash flies up to Trixie and asks her what makes her so special than the rest of them. With a proud smirk, Trixie explains the story of how she saved the town of Hoofington from an 'Ursa Major' by vanquishing it back to the Everfree Forest. Trixie notices them as 'neigh-sayers' and challenges them to show off their skills as well.

First Applejack is challenged to see if she can best Trexie. Applejack shows of her rodeo skills with her lasso tricks and lassoing an apple into her mouth. Sadly, she is bested by Trixie as she magically imitates the rope into a snack and hog-ties around Applejack's legs and making her fall over and sticking an apple in her mouth.

After witnessing Trixie embarrass Applejack, Rainbow Dash takes action by showing off her speed and agility by making holes in the clouds and perfectly going back through them to collect moisture and landing with a rainbow around her. Trixie fights back by making Rainbow Dash's rainbow go wild and turn into a twister, making her dizzy and then by making a thundercloud, Trixie finished by electrifying Dash.


Although Rarity tried to avoid the quarrel between unicorns since a unicorn she show herself with "beauty and grace" not by being a ruffian. Her thoughts change when Trixie calls out to Rarity if she's afraid to get a hair out of place in her 'rats nest she calls a mane'. As she exclaims that 'oh it's on', Rarity tries to show off her magic and poise with her style as she magically changes her clothes and mane-style. Trixie retaliates by magically turning Rarity's beautiful mane into green much with twigs and rat-tails sticking out of it. She cries and runs away embarrassed shouting "Oh, green hair! Not green hair! Such an awful, awful color!" and passes a green-haired variation of Golden Harvest where she exclaims "Well, I never!". (Golden Harvest is also seen in the crowd with her normal orange colored mane.) Spike then encourages Twilight once again to show off her magic, but then she runs away and Trixie declares herself as "the most amazing unicorn in all Equestria."


After the Great and Powerful Trixie's show, Snips and Snails deliver a smoothie with extra hay in it, "just the way she likes" it, and then asks for another adventure story of how she defeated an ursa major. Although, Trixie proclaims she is exhausted from exhibiting the most wonderful magic of all the time so she tells them to go away. As they walk away, they bump into Spike who is skeptical about Trixie's stories also since he needs proof. To that statement Snips and Snails have an idea and head to the Everfree Forest.
Spike then returns to Twilight Sparkle where he tries again to convince her to show off her magic to stand up for her friends. Twilight says she can't take the risk of possibly losing her friends at the same time so Spike walks away frustrated.

 THE URSA MAJOR

That night, Snips and Snails venture into Everfree Forest where they run into a big blue bear inside a cave, accidentally waking it up and leading it to Ponyville. They run to Trixie to wake her up so that she could  vanquish the bear like she did before. Upon seeing the big bear she panics and runs away with two colts after it crushes her trailer. Snips and Snails keeps encouraging Trixie to vanquish the bear but after a few failed attempts she admits to everyone that she has never vanquished an ursa major before.

 Before Ponyville was majorly damaged, Twilight Sparkle finally gives in to use her powers to save and protect her friends. Spike has run quickly to tell Twilight about the situation when the bear arrived. She then uses her magical powers to make a lullaby with the cattails to calm the bear and then levitated the water tower to fill it full of milk from a cow barn and feeds the bear with it. The bear then drifts back to his cave where he came from.

After the incident, all the ponies cheer for Twilight as she saved them all. Twilight Sparkle then asks her friends is they don't mind her magic tricks. They dismiss Trixie's boasts and praise Twilight and her magic reassuring her that her magic is part of who she is and that they are proud of her and how they have such a powerful and talented unicorn as her as a friend. Twilight as grateful as ever then explains that the bear they encountered was an 'ursa minor' not an 'ursa major'. Still proud, Trixie declares that Twilight still doesn't posses the "amazing, show-stopping ability" as she does and runs off after a small cloud of puff appears. Rainbow Dash was going to go after her but Twilight stopped her saying that "Maybe someday she will learn her lesson".

 Twilight then faces Snips and Snails and tells them that as punishment for luring the minor ursa into town,  they have to clean up the whole area. With Spike's suggestion, Twilight also uses her magic to give all of them a mustache. When back into the library, Twilight sends Princess Celestia a friendship report telling her that she should be proud of her talent and know when it is the right time to use it. Twilight then admits to Spike that she is the most talented unicorn in Ponyville but "it is nothing to brag about". Spike also shares that he is disappointed that Rarity wasn't interested Spike's new look with the mustache and Twilight gives him advice to just be himself although he fantasizes about getting a matching beard.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Season 1 Episode 5 - Griffon the Brush Off

Lesson:

Throughout the years, both you and your friends make more friends and although it may be difficult to spend time with a friend you like and their friend who is not very nice, we can't control who our friends hangout with, but we can control how we treat them with out attitude. It is our job as a friend to just be a good friend in deed no matter who you or our friend spends time with and not try to influence who they spend time with. In the end, the face of a true friend will be revealed.

SUMMARY

The fifth episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is entitled 'Griffon the Brush Off'.

Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash bond with each other by pulling pranks on other ponies. Their fun is disrupted when Gilda the Griffon, Rainbow Dash's old friend, shows up and pushes Pinkie away making her feel left out. The title of this episode is a play of words off the quotation of "given the brush-off' which mean a rude and tough dismissal.

In the beginning of the episode Pinkie Pie enthusiastically shares stories of Rainbow Dash and her aerial moves. When she spots Rainbow, she quickly catches up to her although Rainbow Dash tries to escape her. Eventually they get to talk and start to bond.

When Gilda the Griffon appears, the ponies soon find out if she is really cool or just plain mean.

LET THE PRANKS BEGIN


First prank Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash did together was on Spike as he was in the town square pavilion, Pinkie made Rainbow Dash position a thundercloud in a certain place. On Pinkie Pie's cue when Spike came out, Rainbow Dash kicked the cloud making it thunder and scaring Spike into the hiccups. Continuous hiccups make Spike breathe fire and accidentally sending scrolls to a shocked Princess Celestia. After making sure that Spike was okay, Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash looked for more 'victims of their pranks. They ended up using watercolors on some of the apples on Applejack's apple trees, switching normal pen ink with disappearing ink on Twilight Sparkle's ink, and giving Rarity a fabulous sneeze with sneezing powder.
As Rainbow Dash was about to pull a prank on Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie immediately stopped her saying that Fluttershy is too sensitive for a prank and it would hurt her feelings. Instead, the duo finished their day of pranking by pranking each other as Pinkie Pie had placed ink on the telescope Rainbow Dash was looking through, leaving a mark around her eye.

INTRODUCING GILDA THE GRIFFON

The next day, Pinkie Pie was ready and set to play more pranks with Rainbow Dash by wearing glasses with a red clown nose, arrow through head headband, droopy mustache and bringing a party kazoo to Rainbow Dash's house which is a cloud-house in the sky. She is then introduced to Rainbow's old friend from Junior Speedster Flight Camp, Gilda the Griffon. Excited to make more pranks, Pinkie Pie has to wait as Gilda reminds Rainbow Dash about their promised flight lesson where Rainbow Dash excuses themselves from Pinkie Pie and promise to meet up later. Pinkie is fine with this but then every after attempt to join the both of them she is pushed away by Gilda, telling her to 'get lost', 'buzz off', and even calling her 'Stinkie Pie'. How rude.
Pinkie Pie then goes to Twilight Sparkle to get advice about Gilda and her attitude but then both Twilight and Spike assure her that it is just 'green envy' and jealousy towards Gilda and that maybe Pinkie is the one who needs an attitude change. Upset that the two didn't support her side, Pinkie walks away and gets a milkshake by herself at Sugarcube Corner and thinks that maybe what Twilight said is true.


Gilda's True Colors

As Rainbow Dash and Gilda part ways, since Rainbow had to finish some weather jobs, Pinkie Pie tries to observe and look positively towards Gilda. First, Gilda scares Granny Smith with her tail then she steals an apple from a fruit stand, Pinkie tries to brush her bad deeds aside, but receives the last straw when Gilda roars in Fluttershy's face after she accidentally bumped into Gilda while guiding a family of ducks. Although Fluttershy apologized, Gilda still hurt her feelings making her fly away with tears in her eyes. Pinkie Pie then takes a stand and says she is going to fix the situation "Pinkie-Pie Style".


WELCOME PARTY FOR GILDA

The way that Pinkie Pie fixes the situation with Gilda is by throwing her a big 'welcome to Ponyville' party at Sugarcube Corner. Just as the party starts, Gilda is welcomed by a buzzing handshake by Pinkie Pie. Gilda then pulls Pinkie Pie behind the cake and warns her that she has her eyes on her. Pinkie, innocent as ever just ignores the warning and continues to have fun at the party. During the party, Gilda falls for prank after prank where she steadily holds in her irritation towards everypony, even Rainbow Dash.

Gilda blames all the pranks on Pinkie Pie and during "Pin the Tail on the Pony" doesn't believe in Pinkie's direction to where 'the pony' was and heads the other way allowing her to slip on a piece of cake and pinning the tail 'on the wrong end'.

Losing her built up temper, Gilda calls all the attendees of the party a bunch of "dweebs" and Pinkie Pie a "Queen Lame-o" for being the one to set up all the pranks. Attempting to take Rainbow Dash along with her to and bail out if the party, Rainbow Dash doesn't move as she finds out about her old friend's true colors. Dash then reveals the truth that she was the one to set up all the pranks which were not all meant for her but it was just 'dumb luck' that Gilda was the one to do so. Gilda assumed Pinkie made the party to get back at her, but then Pinkie explains that she held the party to improve on Gilda's sour attitude and "turn her frown, upside-down."

Rainbow Dash, disappoint in her old friend's attitude tell Gilda to find some "new cool friends someplace else" if being cool is all she cares about. Without an apology, Gilda calls Rainbow Dash a 'flip-flop' and goes away in a fury slamming the door behind her. Rainbow Dash then apologizes to the party attendees for Gilda's attitude and both her and Pinkie Pie both make-up by joy buzzer handshaking each other.

Twilight Sparkle also inserts her apologies by saying sorry to Pinkie Pie for misjudging her and Gilda. She then realizes that rather than trying to influence and change who your friend hangs out with, you should just be a good friend since in the end, a true friend will be revealed. As Twilight sends Princess Celestia a friendship report, she sends a prank of her own by trying to make Princess Celestia write with disappearing ink.
